XynamaX:
That is a great comment! I am sure your ads have to be profitable for the company selling the product for this kind of trick to work. There are many if's here and the article I linked goes over some details.

Dean:
No billboards?!?! Driving a highway in Hawaii must be a dull thing to do. On the other hand, it is pretty easy to get in trouble with the kind of billboards they have in Europe:

In either case, I would be happy to exchange my driving here in Chicago with one in Hawaii, even w/o billboards. ;-)

Yikes, the sponsored cars look like a pop-up ads on wheels. I'm pretty surprised advertisers are willing to throw that much in that form of advertising. At the same time see one of those vehicles on the road would be hard to forget. I think here in Hawaii there might be restrictions on that type of advertising. They don't allow billboards or sky advertising in Hawaii, which is great.

I remember when those "free car" things from the early dot-com era. There are a lot of special requirements to even be considered, mainly your location and how much you drive. If you're only driving to work and home, you don't stand much of a chance to get a free car.

Now, if you are constantly driving (8-10 hours a day) in a major metro area, you have a better chance. Many of these "free" cars have GPS's in them as well so that the companies know you are using them.

Another side tip on how you can make money with your car: have it used as a prop in a show or a movie. One of my cars was used as a prop on the Soprano's. Got paid $350 for one day!

Thanks for the tip. I will take a look at this website. Also, shortly after I wrote this post, I found this roundup of sites offering free books for PDA's and phones, which I am going to check out:

I just recently found http://www.wattpad.com and I blogged about it in my site.

It lets you download books to your phone/pda as a jar file and read it and I love the way it autoscrolls at a convenient speed so you don't have to scroll through every page!!
