I have never reviewed another blog before. My personal take on it is that blogs should promote via viral marketing. I will probably understand if the blogger attempts to market a new unknown site but if they spend money on ads for a well established blog then I would suspect that there is something wrong with the content and/or site design.
With this idea in mind I have rejected every paid blog review request in the past until today when I got this ReviewMe email from MarkDownMom, a bargain blog for stay at home moms. The blog is a combination of news about promotions in stores like JCPenney, Kmart, and Target, mixed with frugal shopping tips and sweetened with an occasional recipe of a home made meal on a budget.
MarkDownMom is very much the opposite of ProBargainHunter where I mostly write about online shopping. While you will find an occasional online promotion, most of the deals are for brick and mortar stores, the kind of shopping my wife does a lot. There is even a review of how an online auction shop looks when visited in real world, something I would never think of writing about.
For us online freaks however, I have hand-picked a few posts that are probably not the usual kind for MarkDownMom:
- A Tekkie’s Guide to Shopping for Sales
- Sunday Deals: Free MP3 Autobooks No Foolin’
- Tech Deal of the Day: $10-$50 for Computers? No Way!
Since I am not a JCPenney type I will refrain from additional comments. If you however find yourself going into a lot of brick and mortar shops then hopefully MarkDownMom will provide you with some useful tips. Please let me know what you think about it in your comments.
