Update: for the latest revision of this list go to Popular deal sites - April 2011.
This is August 2007 revision of the Popular Deal Sites list. You can find the last month revision of the list here.
The change in rating shows the difference compared to June results. The list has a total of 31 web sites. There are 45 more in my database that didn’t meet the Alexa Rank < 100,000 requirement.
This monthly blog post keeps shrinking as more sites fall off the list. hot-deals.org and shopping-bargains.com have disappeared this time. Among the sites that managed to stay in the list, cheapstingybargains.com (40.64%) sports the best rank change while dailyedeals.com (-25.27%) has the worst
I happen to have spoken on the phone with Mike of chepstingybargains.com last month and we discussed his ranking. He admitted that he started a few new ad campaigns however the traffic increase he saw then wasn't proportional to his rank increase reported for July. I wonder if he saw increasing growth later in the month that would explain the August numbers.
The overall trend across all deal sites is still negative however I notice gradual improvements. Alexa rank changed (-3.59%) on average this month compared to (-7.88%) in July.

Have you looked at Dealio, particularly their toolbar? They claim over 2.5 million downloads – I suspect their volume is higher than the other sites on your list…
Thanks

Can some of the website owners chime in here? I think alexa is way off. I see some sites going way up or down in alexa, but when I look, they seem the same. Are your sites really growing & declining so drastically like alexa shows?
I think less and less people use alexa toolbars. I imagine the top few are close to accurate, but anything over 10,000 rank is probably way off.
Some deals site are geared for more tech savy people therefore they probably have a higher percentage of Alexa toolbars installed and a higher Alexa rank ratio to traffic.
That is just one factor to consider when looking at the Alexa rank.
Dean I think you are right in your theory. I’ve always thought Alexa might be skewed to tech savvy or webmaster related sites.
I’ve alway joked with Yan that sites that go up in rank on his chart, get an additional boost from other curious Probargainhunter visitors users with the toolbar installed. I guess I’ll find out if that’s true.. :)
