Paul,

My mistake. I understand the difference between price comparison and daily deal sites. For some reason I was thinking you would be comparing your search function rating of pricegrabber to that of a daily deal site like slickdeals. I'll blame that on lack of sleep.

Either of you guys attending SXSWi or Affiliate Summit West?

Hey Yan,

You are right that all features don't weigh the same. I just gave an average, may be it needs to go up by a point.

I also think the overall rating is a bit low. Those scores each make perfect sense but they should be weighted differently. The ability to find the correct product and the lowest price should have precedence over merchant ratings and product reviews.

Thanks Steve. Daily deal sites and price comparison sites are different. They serve quite different purposes. Search engine (being able to find the best product) is a very important part in these sites and these are obvious multi-million dollar companies with lots of staff. Though the error was due to wrong specifications in the database and not search function itself, end result is that a novice user is misguided and that beats the purpose.

Regarding limited forum searches and some daily deal sites with better search engines, we will surely see them in the coming posts. However one thing I can point out here is, people come to daily deal websites just to find the most hot/popular deals for the day. They know that every product out there is not going to be a part of "todays deals" or may be I should call it as "active deals". So a search function (for better usability) is surely desired but results expected there are different from that of a price comparison website in which every product has the "best deal" available.

Nice review, Paul. While PG's search function could certainly be improved, your rating of a 6/10 may be a little harsh. I'm assuming you will be comparing the search functionality of PG to that of other deal sites. The limited forum searches available on most deal sites have always frustrated me. As a result, my partners and I made search functionality a top priority while creating our site.

Your analysis of the reseller ratings is very interesting. I've always been a bit skeptical of those...particularly when shopping for photo gear.

Keep up the good work!
