Philips pulls out of US TV market, offers huge sale

philips tvCNet reported last week that Philips will stop selling TV’s in the US and earlier today people started to report huge discounts offered at Philips Outlet on refurbished TV’s. Here is for example an 47” LCD HDTV for $750. Some more TV bargains:

LCD TVs

  • 47” 1080p LCD flat HDTV (47PFL7422D/37B) $750
  • 42” 1080p LCD flat HDTV (42PFL7422D/37B) $650
  • 42” 720p Pixel Plus 3 LCD flat HDTV (42PFL5332D/37B) $600
  • 37” 720p Pixel Plus 3 LCD TV (37PFL5332D/37B) $460
  • 26” Magnavox 720p LCD HDTV with DVD/DivX (26MD357B/37B) $280
  • 26” Magnavox 720p LCD HDTV $260

Plasma TVs

  • 50” 720p Plasma flat HDTV (50PFP5332D/37B) $700

The current promotion is labeled Spring Friends and Family Sale and today is the last day, however I would expect to see more hot deals coming our way before Philips completely clears out the inventory.

These are amazingly hot prices and Philips is a recognized brand in electronics market. The only issue I have with them is the warranty which you will surely want to have since 90-day Limited Warranty is what you get by default and due to the obvious reasons Philips is not offering anything longer.

SquareTrade is one of the third party extended warranty companies that got pretty good reviews. Use code FIFTYOFF and you will get 50% off their rates.

Doesn’t look good.. Philips has been down for maintenance for a long time…

LOL. I get this right now:

    ISA Framework: Internal Error: java.lang.NullPointerException

These guys need to fix the mess

I just hope they don’t cancel the 1000’s of orders they received over the weekend.

I had bad experience with Philips products, as well as a couple of my friends. I know YMMV, but I am not getting anything from Philips, except maybe lightbulbs ;)

I have not ordered anything but it was very tempting. My Sony Trinitron CRT refuses to break after 8 years of abuse by small kids and I have very little incentive to upgrade since I don’t watch it much. I do have a flat screen monitor on my home PC. ;-)

I bought a refurbished tv from Philips that didn’t work properly out of the box. It took 6 months before I had a working set. I’m with Alex.

hehe. same here – I have a 32″ radiation king that works fine and have no incentives to upgrade. I did consider seriously once when 42″ Olevia went on sale briefly at Target for like $500 (display item, coupon, credit card sign up, you know the drill…) but it was more of a deal hunting adrenaline than the actual need…

If you don’t watch much TV, there really no incentive to upgrade. But if you are sports fan, and like to watch the occasional HBO series, HDTV is awesome. LCDs are great because they consume less power and take up less space in your home.

Mike, you talk like a salesman. ;-)
    Do you have an LCD?

I have another problem with flat-screens. The furniture set I currently have in my living room is not LCD friendly. It fits my current TV just fine but the big screen will look ugly in there.

Oh boy, just 12 years back I could probably carry all my possessions in one suitcase…

Yan – Yes, I have an LCD.. As for room, you can always put it up on the wall..

You can even get a small LCD that will fit in your suitcase :)

I have bought before refurb items from philips(even my 1st LCD tv), no complaints here they all have worked properly out of box. This time I bought the 47″ looked like a great deal. Hope it works just as good as the other stuff i gotten there.
