Microsoft has just announced on their blog that they will be closing their popular rewards program, Bing Cashback. It is a dark day for all the bargain hunters in the US and a celebration for all the smaller rival businesses.
The explanation given is that the revenue Microsoft was pouring back at the shoppers didn’t result into new search traffic acquisition, and keeping the program as a business of itself (which it once was) apparently hasn’t been in Microsoft’s plans.
Is it another evidence that “money cannot buy happiness” as Techcrunch puts it, or am I just being sarcastic here? Which ever way it is, my strongest sentiment is a feeling of sadness about all the great technology wasted by the company in an attempt to salvage a fairly unrelated business.

Hey, donuts lovers! Don’t miss the tomorrow’s feast! Major chains like Krispy Kreme, Dunkin’s Donuts and LaMar’s Donuts all offer a free donut to the visitors and I am sure some smaller shops will do so too.
Here are some details. Krispy Kreme issued a press release in late May and now has a downloadable PDF online listing all the participating stores. They offer a free doughnut of any variety. LaMar’s Donuts put up some additional information on their about page. They offer each visitor a free Ray’s Original Glazed Donut, their signature product. Dunkin’s Donuts are even more restrictive, to get your free donut you need to buy a coffee, tea, latte or Coolatta. They do however run an online contest where you get to create your own donut and may win a prize.
I am not very excited about all these donut deals since I am not a big donut lover. I think I will hold till July 18 which is the official Ice Cream day! ;-)

Amazon has just released a new set of grocery coupon codes and the variety is not as great as in May. They added some Free Shipping offers and some stuff for the Father’s Day. I am posting them as usual in a list sorted by discount so it is more convenient to pick those with the best value. All coupons below expire June 30, 2010.
