Buxr Update: Contests and Prizes

This is a short update on what is going on at Buxr, the project I started with my partner last December. This month we officially launched deal sharing contests and so far they have been a huge success. In just several days since the announcement we had 66 new members who have shared 137 deals and received 12 daily prizes ($10 by Paypal).

There is more than a daily prize at stake. Every time our members share deals and make their votes on deals others submit they contribute towards the monthly prize, or to be correct a choice of three prizes that we put out for vote on the monthly contest page.

I have been learning a lot from these contests and already have some ideas on how they can be improved. The goal is to make them interesting and fun for both: deal submitters and members who come to comment and vote for deals. I discussed some thoughts in this blog post and I will put out more for discussion later as I learn more.

Power Plus AAA Size Heavy Duty Battery, 32 pack for $4.75 shipped. I might jump on this one. Running out of battering. :-) Judging from the category these are alkaline but I am not convinced.
Logitech LX7 Cordless Optical Mouse Tilt Wheel for $15.77 shipped after rebate. A decent cordless mouse for a bargain price. I would buy it if I didn’t already have one.

20% off at Cheapestees.com - a reader at this blog tipped me off to this coupon. Cheapestees.com is a merchant I reviewed in the past. They have very low prices and excellent customer service.
PNY GeForce 8600GT 540MHz 256MB PCI Express x16 Video Card for $49.99 AR with free shipping - this is a decent video card at a bargain low price. PriceGrabber lowest price is $112.43 and that is with some little known merchant
Sentry HO900 Wireless Headphones for $19.98 - inexpensive wireless headphones at Walmart. At first I was concerned about the quality but these headphones actually had pretty decent reviews at Amazon
A-Data 8GB SDHC Combo Kit for $23.99 AR - it is a high speed SD card and USB adapter in one package for a very good price.

This week hasn’t not been as productive as the last one, also many good deals that we posted this week have already expired, yet there are a few that made it to the weekend. Here are some of those that caught my eye:

Dell Vostro 200 Mini Tower w/ 19” LCD - for $349 shipped. An inexpensive ready to use desktop PC, perfect for many office applications. Be aware though, I have heard these Dell Mini Towers are difficult to expand. At this price though you might well just replace the whole tower and just leave the monitor.
Watch All South Park Episodes Online for Free - Viacom and SouthParkStudios have struck a deal and made all South Park episodes available online free.
As far as the hard drive deals go, there is a choice of two equally good deals this week. Western Digital 640GB for $130 or Seagate 500GB for around $100 shipped. Both drives use SATA interface and the price on each come to around $0.2 per Gigabyte.
Free Download of Command & Conquer - I actually did go ahead and downloaded this game. Have not installed yet though. The zip package that comes has two ISO files that you need to burn into CD’s
60% off Dining Certificates, get $25 gift card for $4 - this is one of those promotions Restaurant.com is doing periodically. I have not seen them offer better than 60% off and if you consider giving them a try this might be your chance.
Kingston 2GB microSD Secure Digital Card with Full Size SD Adapter for $11.95 - a pretty good deal on a micro-SD card. If you sign up to a Google Checkout you can get it for $1.95 shipped. If you need just a regular card (not micro), the same ten bucks will buy you 4GB after $10 mail-in rebate
