Oil money and politics, in charts

Did you know that George W. Bush received $2,649,725 in contributions from oil companies in his 2004 election campaign? Or that in Rudy Giuliani received $659,158 this year? Neither did I.

Follow the Oil Money is a very interesting project that keeps track of petroleum industry campaign contributions and mashes them up in a cool visual application allowing you to spin the data every possible way.

Bush oil money

A political junkie like myself could probably spend days browsing the charts, but here are the bits that you should really care about:

Candidate name Oil contributions
MCCAIN, JOHN $291,685
CLINTON, HILLARY $289,950
OBAMA, BARACK $163,840

It has always bothered me that our current president has close ties with the oil industry. I strongly believe it is a part of the reason why we ended up in Iraq. Well, you don’t need to guess who I am going to vote for this time around. ;-)
