This is March 2008 revision of the Popular Price Comparison web sites list. You can find the last month revision of the list here.
The change in rating shows the difference compared to February results. The list has a total of 34 web sites and there are 16 more sites in my database that don’t meet Alexa Rank < 100,000 requirement.
thefind.com (43.18%) has been going strong for the third month in the row. They came in first in January and second in February. They have recently tapped into local search and made some partners and obviously gained a lot of momentum.
The worst performer is again mpire.com (-30.47%). I guess Matt Hulett keeps ignoring the business that brought him where he is right now with WidgetBucks.

Wanting to pick a site to review, I referred to the latest revision of Yan’s Popular Price Comparison Sites series and found that ugenie.com went up in traffic by 59%. But on going to the website, I could not find anything about price comparison, but about IRead (totally not about shopping), their Facebook application. Googling found this link, which talks about a lawsuit and other issues. Summarizing quickly, UGenie (allegedly) happily ripped (scrapped) off another website gig’s of data to build a course textbook search engine. Though scrapping is done very often, Ugenie has scrapped from a single source very valuable data worth a lot of human hours (details about courses and their linked textbooks). And now UGenie is gone. However inner links like this are working.
Now again wanting to pick a site to review, I picked the youngest baby among the latest revision of Yan’s Popular Price Comparison Sites series, thefind.com. thefind.com is actually the second youngest in the list (next to ugenie, which should no more be in the list) and the second best performer last month (30%, again next to ugenie.com’s 59%).
First look at the home page (this is the first time I have ever been to the site): looks different compared to most popular price comparison sites. A quick read on the home page suggests that “search” is their strength. So, I am going to try the same set of searches I tried on PriceGrabber and Cnet Shopper.

The change in rating shows the difference compared to December results. The list has a total of 33 web sites and there are 16 more sites in my database that don’t meet Alexa Rank < 100,000 requirement.
thefind.com (18.61%) is in the lead this month. Could it be due to the recent Paypal love? The worst number comes from ebates.com (-9.35%) but the decline seems to be within usual fluctuation range.
Another notable change is the reduction in Google PageRank across the board. I don’t have an explanation other than there probably was a Google update recently and the big G tweaked their algorithm again.

The change in rating shows the difference compared to September results. The list has a total of 33 web sites and there are 15 more sites in my database that don’t meet Alexa Rank < 100,000 requirement.
It looks like latest Google update affected a lot of sites. I am not sure if Page Rank is relevant anymore though. My blog for once was hit (the rank went from 4 to 3) but I don’t see anything changed web-traffic wise.
The winner this month is again pronto.com (27.63%) which just passed pricerunner by Alexa rank. The social functionality they launched in September and all the buzz around it is clearly helping.
The worst result comes from thefind.com (-58.98%). Other than possibly reduced amount of advertising I don’t have other explanation for this drop.

The change in rating shows the difference compared to August results. The list has a total of 33 web sites and there are 15 more sites in my database that don’t meet Alexa Rank < 100,000 requirement.
This month list looks like a very close race. There is just one website that has better than 10% rating change, pronto.com (11.04%) which had very good last month as well.
The worst result comes from thefind.com (-15.8%) which is the only website with rating change below -10%. Enjoy the complete list below and make sure to drop me a note if you find that your favorite price comparison website is missing.
